When the 959 launched in 1986, it was the most technologically advanced road car ever produced — featuring all-wheel drive, twin-sequential turbos, electronically controlled dampers, and a 450-horsepower flat-six in an era when rivals were still relying on carburettors. It was faster than anything on sale, more sophisticated than anything anyone had attempted, and produced in just 337 examples. The 959 set the template for the modern supercar and established a benchmark that took a decade to surpass.
